Fujifilm X-E5 (2026)

Part GAS*, part need for a higher resolution sensor for more cropping headroom and a camera body compact with IBIS more controls lead me to the X-E5. Still somewhat pocketable (if your definition of a pocket is as loose as mine). Fujifilm engineers probably intended this to be the best street camera in their lineup (along with the hard to find x100vi) but I decided to challenge them and turn this into a bird photography body. And the results are.. well you see it in my gallery.

Fujifilm X-M5 (2025)

Wanted something recent with at least an APS-C sensor compact and budget friendly. The internet guided me to Fujifilm. Loved the SOOC JPEGs with the film sims and custom recipes. Decided to stay with Fuji. Piss filter is love. r/photographycirclejerk hates this.

Nikon D3200 (2012)

My first DSLR. Got me hooked. Took it with me everywhere. Made a ton of memories.

*For the uninitiated, GAS stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrome. As an example, next time you visit a public park with ponds, you may spot men in their forties lugging around huge cannons on their canon cameras hunting for ducks in the parks. These are usually terminal case GAS patients. If you look around you may also spot the angry wife who also doubles as the pack mule for their bag of F2.8 and F4 primes. FYI, photographers are not the only ones prone to GAS. Ask your local espresso enthusiast or audiophile to know more.
