Medium in size, enormous in sweetness

Let me introduce you to the harder to find middle spotted woodpecker. What he lacks in size, he more than makes up for it in cuteness. I mean, just look at that round little face. There is an almost childlike innocence in his eyes. The crimson red skullcap really looks like the cherry on top. I wasn’t really planning to photograph this guy. In fact, I was looking for the tawny owl that seemed to be hooting somewhere around me but it definitely did not want to reveal itself. Another day I guess. Two mosquito bites and a thigh cramp seem like a perfectly reasonable price to pay for this encounter. Enjoy this little dude in all his high resolution glory.
